The Kinsale Road Landfill ceased acceptance of waste in 2009. It is estimated that at least 3 000 000 tonnes of waste has been deposited over its 40 year lifetime. The site (approx 70 ha.) is still the subject of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) landfill licence. The licenced area includes the existing Park and Ride Area which is located west of the main landfill and the South City Link Road.
