Iarnród Éireann — Irish Rail is seeking suitably qualified candidates to participate in the tender for the supply of 6 ballast plough rail wagons. These wagons shall be designed to operate with the existing ‘High Output Ballast System’ (HOBS) wagons, supplied by Wabtec in 2010. The purpose of the ballast plough wagons is 2 fold: to plough the ballast discharged by the HOBS train and also to supply water for the dust suppression system fitted to the HOBS wagons. The contract will also include for the necessary training in the operation and maintenance of the wagons. The winning contractor will be required to participate and co-operate with IE’s safety validation process and Commission for Railway Regulation approval (CRR) for introducing new equipment on to IE’s network.
