Train Driving Simulators
Iarnrรณd รireann (IE) is a subsidiary company of Cรณras Iompair รireann which is the publicly owned transport company of Ireland. Its role is to provide rail transport and Harbour Management services within the State of Ireland. The company is wholly owned by the Irish Government. IE currently has a simulator system which is used to provide basic and advanced driving skills training for trainee drivers and experienced drivers respectively. These simulators are used:
โ To provide initial training in train handling techniques and in the application of the full range of rules and procedures;
โ To provide mandatory biennial refresher training on infrequently applied rules and procedures during normal, degraded and emergency operating modes;
โ To assess the application of Iร's rules and procedures in all operating modes;
โ To assist the training of fault-finding procedures;
โ To compliment Iร's established training processes.
The existing simulators, 8 of, located Dublin (6) and Cork (2) were purchased from CORYS in 2008. The current contract for the software maintenance expires in May 2017; the system is currently operating on MS Window XP. In addition to required software upgrades, the hardware in the simulators will need modification.
