The objective for An Garda Síochána in undertaking this procurement process is to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. In this regard the details below, sets out the current position and the requirement for moving to a Windows 7 Environment.
1.2.1 AN GARDA SÍOCHÁNA ROADMAP
— Windows 7 Desktop Upgrade There are 14 000 users across the entire Garda organisation Currently 6 640 desktops running Windows XP Enterprise. 4 740 desktops will be replaced by new Desktops
— Each of which will be purchased with an associated Windows 7 or Windows 8 Standard OEM license. 1,900 existing desktops are running Windows XP Enterprise & are capable of supporting Windows 7
— These desktops will have the OS version upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise
— Of these desktops 150 have active SA.
Capabilities to be supported:
— VDI
— Upgrade rights
— Bitlocker (including back-end management)
— MS Office 2007
The new standard Windows 7 desktop environment will run Office 2007. There are sufficient existing licenses held by AGS to support this set-up
— MS Exchange Upgrade (back-end) Upgrade from existing Exchange 2003 environment to Exchange 2010
The upgrade will be based on MS Server 2012 Server side licensing required :
— 16 * MS Server 2012 DC licenses (based on 8 blade servers)
— 5 * MS Exchange Server 2010 Ent.
— 1 * MS Exchange Server 2010 Std.
Current version of MS Office (2007) to be maintained as per point above in relation to the Windows 7 upgrade
Client Licensing:
— Required core CALs to cover all AGS devices as described above.
