Provision of a National Household Travel Survey
In order to support transport investment decisions and help access transport priorities nationally, the NTA intend to develop a multi-modal transport model covering the Republic of Ireland. In August 2010, the Authority commissioned WSP consultants to undertake a scoping study for the development of a National Transport Model (NTM). This study highlighted the need for a comprehensive household survey to provide essential data on travel behaviour nationally.
The survey shall comprise two stages. The first stage of the survey shall be undertaken and completed between September 1st 2011 and November 30th 2011. The second stage of the survey shall be undertaken and completed between 1.2.2012 and 31.5.2012. The duration of each stage of the survey will be determined following interaction / discussion between representatives of the NTA and the successful tenderer, however it is stressed that time is of the essence in relation to the completion of each stage of the survey in accordance with the schedule set out above.
The main aim of the national household travel survey will be to obtain factual data on travel behaviour throughout the country on a typical day. This data will include the number of trips being made daily, the mode and time of travel, the distance travelled and the journey purpose.
