Gorey main drainage scheme - stage 2 extension of courtown wastewater treatment plant. Gorey Main Drainage scheme โ stage 2 Extension of Courtown waste water treatment plant is a design, build, operate and maintain (DBO) contract. The existing Courtown waste water treatment plant (WWTP) was commissioned in 2002 and treats all flows from the Courtown drainage scheme area and also treats part of the Gorey wastewater load. The plant is operated by Wexford County Council and has a design capacity of 12 000 PE. It is proposed to increase the capacity of the existing Courtown waste water treatment plant to a design population equivalent (PE) in the region of 25,000 with provision for future expansion to a design PE of 35 000 and an ultimate design PE of 45 000. The existing Gorey WWTP is overloaded but has been assisted by the recent commissioning of a new pumping station to divert part of the incoming flow from the plant to the Courtown WWTP. As part of this project the Gorey WWTP will be decommissioned on completion of the Courtown WWTP extension. Screening and stormwater storage will be provided at the Gorey WWTP site with the pumping station pumping all flows to the Courtown WWTP for treatment. As part of the sludge management plan for County Wexford, imported sludges from the Gorey satellite area will be accepted at the Courtown WWTP. All sludge will be dewatered to achieve a dry solids content of 20 %. The successful tenderer will construct the extension to the existing WWTP, and operate and maintain the facility, including outfall pipelines. The contract also includes for the transportation and disposal of dewatered sludge. The following existing pumping stations and pipelines will be taken in charge, operated and maintained by the successful tenderer: Gorey pumping station and storm water handling facilities at the Gorey WWTP site including 3,935m of 400mm ductile iron rising mains discharging to Courtown WWTP; Courtown harbour pumping station at South Beach, Courtown including stormwater storage tank and 1,992m of 300mm ductile iron rising mains with direct connection to Courtown WWTP; Ballinatray pumping station including 25m of 100mm rising main connected to 300mm rising main from the Courtown harbour pumping station to Courtown WWTP; Outfall pipeline from Courtown WWTP to the Irish Sea, with 762m of 500mm and 1,227m of 400mm ductile iron pipework forming the terrestrial section of the rising main, and 430m of 800mm HPPE pipework, complete with 4 No. HPPE diffusers forming the outfall line to the Irish Sea. Riverchapel pumping station and Pollshone pumping station with rising mains may also be included.
