In summary, the works involved in this project generally consist of the following: • Installation of self-drilling soil nails and mesh to stabilise the failed slope. • Excavation of failed slope and removal of the existing gabion baskets on site, including provision of temporary works propping to support steel arch frame which has one leg erected on the gabions. • Construction of a new foundation for the failed wing wall. • Extension of the soils and installation of mesh to re-build embankment to required height. This will be typical of a reinforced soil embankment with mesh finishing using a ‘bottom-up’ construction sequence • Installation of horizontal drains to allow groundwater to drain from the slope. • Construction of new masonry wing wall. • Extending top of existing walls on site. • Surface finishing. • Reinstatement, pointing and general repair work as required. The works will be completed on the downstream side of the bridge only with no disturbance to the existing conditions on the northern side which is considered in good condition. The Contractor shall provide all labour and plant resources for construction of the Works unless otherwise stated. All temporary works and access are the responsibility of the contractor The Contractor shall note that due to the requirement to work on steep side slopes considerable temporary works may be required to ensure the works are done in a safe manner. The Contractor shall supply all materials required for the temporary and permanent Works. The Contractor shall include for the costs of these temporary works, including design, in their rates and prices.
