The bridge was built in the late 19th century to join the Amiens Street Station on the North side of the Liffey river to Westland Row Station on the South side of the river. The bridge carries the railway approximately 6 metres above street level. This project concerns the painting of the 8 spans from Tara Street to Beresford place, a total length of 201 m. The bridge consisits of a wrought iron lattice girder superstructure supported on masonry and cast iron piers. The bridge structure carries and intensive electrified suburban rail service, double track, catering for 12 trains per direction per hour. The structure spans major road routes, twin track electric tramway, private property and the river.
