Title attributed to the contract by the contracting entity: The East West Interconnector ("EWI") Project. Design, engineer, procure, manufacture, install, test and commission a high voltage direct current (HVDC) electricity interconnector system between the Republic of Ireland and Britain with transmission capacity in the range of 450 -650 MW. The system shall include an HVDC converter station in Britain, an HVDC converter station in Ireland and HVDC cable(s). The cable route length will be approximately 240 km. The contract is divided into lots (see II.2.1 below). The contractual structure will be finalised in later tender documentation. The following scenarios are currently envisaged: a single design and build or EPC contract may be awarded to cover lot 3; 2 separate design and build or EPC contracts may be awarded to cover lot 1 and lot 2. Where 2 contracts are awarded, the successful tenderers may be required to implement contractual arrangements to govern their relationship during installation, testing, and commissioning as well as during any maintenance period. EirGrid does not envisage accepting interface risk. An optional maintenance requirement of up to 5 years may be included. If maintenance is included it may be included either in the design and build/EPC contract(s) or as separate maintenance contract(s) with the successful tenderer(s).
