ENQEIR225 Evidence Based Guideline Studies. EirGrid plc is currently examining best practice in environmental impact assessment with respect to the development of a series of authoritative studies examining the actual effects of the construction and operation of existing power transmission projects in Ireland. This need has arisen from a preliminary recommendation of a Strategic Environmental Assessment for the Draft Grid 25 Implementation Programme, which is currently in the final stages of preparation. It is intended that the SEA (and associated Appropriate Assessment), and the Implementation Programme will be put forward for public consultation in early 2011. EirGrid intends to commission a series of studies to examine the environmental effects of the construction and operation of a comprehensive suite of existing high voltage transmission projects, including 110 kV, 220 kV and 400 kV overhead lines, underground cables and substations, on a broad range of receiving environments (to be defined but including typical, non-standard and worst case) for comparison with unaffected areas.
