St Michaels Unit Refurbishment, Mercy University Hospital

Mercy University Hospital

St Michaelโ€™s Unit (SMU) is a 50 bed acute admission unit for people experiencing Mental Health difficulties located on the 1st floor of the Lee View Block building, Mercy University Hospital, Cork. The unit contains single, double, and multi occupancy rooms. It is a mixed gender unit and is divided into an 18-bed acute ward and a 32-bed sub-acute ward. The facilities in SMU were designed in 2000 and do not meet the needs of a modern service. The current environment is not conducive to the recovery process. These environmental issues have been reflected in the Mental Health Commission (MHC) inspection reports over the past number of years. This projects sets out a phased refurbishment for the upgrade of anti ligature fixtures and fittings as set out in the works requirements.
