The safety advisory service at SETU Carlow Campus will provide experienced senior personnel to act as safety advisors for up to 12 days per month. The advisors will be present on campus three days per week during the academic semester and two days per week outside of semester, from 9 am to 5 pm. Key responsibilities include: โ€ข Acting as the competent person under the Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 โ€ข Maintaining and updating the university's safety system in collaboration with other SETU campuses. โ€ข Supporting academic, functional managers, and departments. โ€ข Assisting the campus safety coordinator in governance preparations โ€ข Undertaking risk assessments (including pregnancy and ergonomic assessments) โ€ข Delivering health and safety training (fire marshal, risk assessment, manual handling, and more) โ€ข Managing safety management software โ€ข Investigating accidents and incidents โ€ข Evaluating legal compliance and crisis management planning โ€ข Providing bespoke training for chemical, biological, and gas safety โ€ข Managing Legionella risks and conducting fire evacuation drills The advisor will also participate in health and safety committees, provide ongoing advice to heads of department, and support safety representatives and inspections.
