The Multimodal Imaging Platform is required for the visualisation and analysis of materials and physical, chemical and biological processes at a scale of hundreds of nanometers. It is envisaged that the Platform should combine the modalities of state-of-the-art visible confocal fluorescence microscopy with imaging based on fluorescence lifetime, 2 photon fluorescence, second harmonic generation (SHG), coherent anti-Stokes (CARS), and stimulated Raman scattering (SRS). The source must be minimally perturbative for dynamic studies, the specimen being maintained as close to physiological conditions as possible, from video-rate imaging to long-term observations of sensitive specimens.
