Tenders are invited for the procurement of equipment for solid-liquid separation (e.g. screw extractors, screw presses, etc.) of various line sizes. The client would like to realise a solid-liquid separation of fermented biomass raw materials. The raw material fraction consists of grass-like biomasses, especially mixtures of grass/clover/alfalfa biomass, which is shredded to a cutting length of 3-10 cm and then subjected to a fixed-bed fermentation (ensiling). This results in a partial enzymatic and bacterial conversion of the biomass. The organic acids produced in the feedstock fermentation lower the pH value into the acidic range (pH 3.2 to 5.5) and cause partial cell disintegration. The solid-liquid separation technology envisaged must be particularly suitable for dewatering of the described raw material to obtain extracts from it.
The plant for solid-liquid separation/extractor delivers a dewatered solid extraction residue (press cake) of โฅ 38 % DM from the previously described feed material with an initial consistency of DM 20 %; or delivers a dewatered solid extraction residue (press cake) of โฅ 40 % DM from the feed material with an initial consistency of DM 25 %. The plant for solid-liquid separation/extractor is controllable with regard to essential pressing parameters (speed, contact pressure, throughput) and has a PLC -system including emergency shutdown, which enables automated operation.
With regard to the required raw material throughputs, different LOTs were defined, which are to be considered as variants of the implementation.
Lot 1: extractor (screw extractor, screw press) suitable for a raw material throughput of 4 000-4 600 kg/h.
The solid-liquid separation system / extractor meets the following requirements:
1) Suitability for feedstock: feedstock is fermented (ensiled) grass/clover/alfalfa biomass shredded to a chop length of 3-10 cm, slightly acidic (pH - value in the range 3.2 to 5.5) with an initial consistency of 20 % dry matter (and above);
2) Dewatering targets: at an initial feed consistency of 20 % DM, a solid dewatered extraction residue (press cake) of โฅ 38 % DM is generated, and at an initial feed consistency of 25 % DM a solid dewatered extraction residue (press cake) of โฅ 40 % DM is generated. The plant for solid-liquid separation / extractor is optimised accordingly with regard to the achievable dewatering performance;
3) Design: the plant for solid-liquid separation/extractor is robustly built to permanently withstand the mechanical loads arising in the process. The design enables a largely trouble-free operation of the solid-liquid separation. Due to its design, the unit is suitable to resist foreign matter/impurities in the feed such as small stones without damage. Due to its design, the plant is suitable for a later change of location;
4) Process control: the plant for solid-liquid separation/extractor can be controlled with regard to essential pressing parameters (speed, pressure, and throughput) and has a PLC system including emergency shutdown. The process control system enables automated operation of the plant to the greatest possible extent without operating personnel;
5) Optimised operation and maintenance: the operation of the plant for solid-liquid separation/extractor is optimised with regard to the required electrical connected loads and the operating current required for its operation. The required measures for recurring maintenance and servicing are as low as possible.
