Wash facilities will not change as part of this project hence the train wash tagging system will be required to interface with IE's existing systems to identify when a train is on the wash road, when the wash facilities are operational, the type of train, its unique fleet number and its length. IE would also like to monitor the train speed as it passes through the wash facilities as there is evidence that faster speeds through the wash facilities result in poorer wash results.

For means of train identification IE have fitted Siemens RFID tags to all rolling stock. Should Applicants wish to propose another means of train identification they will need to demonstrate the successful use of that proposed technology in a similar application.
