Provision of scientific support for conservation objective setting for Natura 2000 in Ireland

Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht

Since 2009, the National Parks and Wildlife Service of DAHG, has been preparing
detailed site-specific conservation objectives for Special Areas of Conservation
(SACs) and Special Protection Areas (SPAs) in Ireland. To date, detailed
conservation objectives have been published for over 150 Natura 2000 sites
(these are published on a site-by-site basis as they are prepared. See:
http://www.npws.ie/protected-sites/conservation-management-
planning/conservation-objectives). Conservation objectives are based on the
principle of defining favourable conservation condition for a particular habitat or
species at a site level by identifying suitable attributes with targets.
As part of the ongoing process of preparing detailed site-specific conservation
objectives for Natura 2000 sites, the Department of the Arts, Heritage and the
Gaeltacht now invites tenders for provision of scientific support to the
conservation objective-setting process.
A detailed specification of the Department's technical requirements is set out in
Appendix 1B below. A strict schedule of deliverables will be agreed with the
successful Tenderer, with the contract expected to commence in May 2016 and
conclude no later than April 2019.
