Public Interactive Arts and Science Contract

Galway County Council

Derrigimlagh, Connemara, Co. Galway (the โ€˜Siteโ€™) was the setting for 2 outstanding technological achievements of the 20th century. The first being the Marconi Wireless Station, the world's first commercial transatlantic wireless station in 1907. Twelve years later in 1919, aviation history was made when Captain John Alcock and Lieutenant Arthur Whitten Brown landed on the site after the first non-stop transatlantic flight.
The Contracting Authority wishes to bring the Site and the above 2 stories to life for visitors by developing an interpreted looped walk, using a range of bespoke Interactive Arts and Science installations that reflect the central theme of innovation while sensitively responding to the character of the dramatic landscape.
