Invitation to Tender for Provision of Electricity Generator at Kinsale Rd Landfill Site Cork
The Kinsale Road Landfill ceased acceptance of waste in 2009.
It is estimated that at least 3 000 000 tonnes of waste has been deposited over its 40 year lifetime. The site (approx 70 ha) is still the subject of an EPA landfill licence. The licenced area includes the existing Park and Ride Area which is located west of the main landfill and the South City Link Road.
A public Civic Amenity Site will continue to operate on the site in to the future.
The licence conditions require the Council to extract, collect and treat landfill gas generated on site from the decomposing waste.
The conditions are listed in EPA Waste Licence No. W0012-03 dated 3.5.2011 (
www.epa.ie).
In addition to the above, Cork City Council, as an energy consumer, has an obligation to reduce its energy consumption by 33 % by the year 2020. Consequently, Cork City Council intends to generate electricity from landfill gas and offset the electricity units generated against its energy reduction obligations.
Cork City Council is now seeking tenders from suitably qualified and experienced companies who will under contract:
โ supply, install, commission and maintain the warranty of an electricity generator capable of producing 0.5 MW of electricity from landfill gas at Kinsale Road Landfill Site. The duration of the contract shall be for a period of 5 years with the option to extend for a period of 1 year at the discretion of the Council,
โ the plant warranty shall be for the 5 year duration of the contract with an option to extend same for a further year if required.
