Bord Na Mona would like to invite interested parties to tender for the design, provisioning, implementation and support of a new or refreshed, where appropriate, best of breed ICT Infrastructure hardware and software solution in line with the service driven architecture defined in the LTA.
This solution will include but is not necessarily limited to implementation of hardware and software with associated project services and operational support for the duration of the project, within the following identified BnM Core IT Services:
Collaboration Service;
Compute Service;
Data Management Service;
Directory Services Service;
End User Compute Service;
IT Continuity Service;
Messaging Service;
Network Service;

Current Architecture.
Bord Na Mรณna (BnM) operate the bulk of it's IT systems and infrastructure from the Newbridge site, with some functions distributed to branch sites where systems usage or network infrastructure limitations warrant a local instance of applications or data. The Newbridge site comprises four data rooms at present. The following is a summary of the main technology platforms currently deployed:
Physical Server platform:
โ€” Intel based rack servers predominantly from HP;
โ€” Intel based Blade servers from HP (recently deployed for specific isolated environment).
Operating systems:
โ€” Netware 6.5 (SP6/7), (deployed as a cluster for directory/file/print/email and other services);
โ€” Suse Linux Enterprise Edition v9/v10/v11;
โ€” Windows NT/2000/2003;
โ€” Windows 2008 (deployed for specific isolated environment).
Storage Arrays:
โ€” HP EVA 5000;
โ€” HP EVA 6300 (recently deployed for specific isolated environment);
โ€” HP P4000 VSA (deployed for specific isolated environment);
โ€” MSA1000 โ€“ remote site.
Storage Area Network:
โ€” Brocade 4Gb/2Gb fabric switches;
โ€” HP c-Class brocade fabric 8Gb (recently deployed for isolated use only).
Local Area Network:
โ€” 1Gbps core based on 3Com 5500G switches;
โ€” 1Gbps and 100Mbps access layer based on various 3Com models (Superstack 1100, 3300 and 4400).
Wide Area Network:
โ€” Cisco routing infrastructure for Branch and Internet routing.
Email:
โ€” Groupwise v8 running on the Netware platform.
Directory:
โ€” Novell eDirectory 8;
โ€” Active Directory (Windows 2003 based).
Database:
โ€” Oracle 11i;
โ€” Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005.
Virtualisation:
โ€” VMWare Virtual Infrastructure 3;
โ€” VMWare vSphere 4 (specific isolated use);
โ€” VMWare vSphere 5 (specific isolated use).
System Management:
โ€” Zenworks Configuration Manager.
The refresh of the BnM ICT infrastructure, is planned to address the following issues, among others:
โ€” The current infrastructure is old and approaching or actually out of vendor support.
โ€” The current Infrastructure capacity is nearing it's recommended limits.
โ€” Inadequate Disaster Recovery and Service Continuity capability.
โ€” Strategic vulnerability due to an infrastructure that is not capable of expanding flexibly to meet business needs.
โ€” Complexity of the existing technical architecture due to the diversity of technologies in use.
Geography:
The LTA will be hosted in a primary data centre located in BnM headquarters in Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland. The LTA will incorporate an off-site Disaster Recovery (D.R.) capability within the solution. The design and implementation of the data centres and associated facilities is not within the scope of this tender.
There are a total of 47 Bord na Mรณna sites where end user IT devices are used. These are located throughout the island of Ireland with a site each in the United Kingdom and the USA.
A telecommunications network exists linking all sites back to the primary site in Newbridge with bandwidth links of between 28 KB and 100 MB, depending on usage.
Existing usage:
Number of Business Units 5.
Number of application end users 706.
