ETB-1212-12 - Heavy Fuel Oil Storage Tank Cleaning
The subject of this enquiry is the fuel oil storage tanks No 1, 2 and 3 at Tarbert Power Station.
In the case of tanks No1 and No2, it is intended to have these tanks emptied and left free of product, fuel and other contaminants with the aim of retiring them from active service.
In the case of tank No3, this is also to be emptied and left free of product, fuel and other contaminants. This tank is required to return to active service. It shall be subject to such inspections as required to demonstrate the structural integrity/reliability of the tank and all associated tank components. In the event repairs are required to ensure the structural integrity of tank No.3, it is anticipated such work will be carried out by the successful contractor.
The storage of fuel at Tarbert is provided in the form of four equal sized cylindrical steel oil tanks, 49m diameter x 15m high which are in close proximity to each other.
Currently tanks No 1, 2 and 3 retain low levels of residual fuel oil. Tank No4 shall be the receiving tank for the oil emptied from these tanks. However, tank No4 currently has an available capacity lower than the total quantity of residual oil in tanks No 1, 2 and 3. In the event this situation persists then an alternative solution will be pursued.
All work must be carried out with minimum risk of adverse safety and environmental impacts.
