RFT automated tow placement (ATP) equipment for polymer matrix composite prepregsat the UL's iComp
As Host to the Irish Centre for Composites Research (IComp), an EI and IDA initiative, the University of Limerick wishes to develop technical expertise in automated processes suitable for the manufacture of carbon fibre reinforced composite structures from prepreg. In particular, it is intended to study automated tow placement (ATP) processes. The purchased equipment will be used to develop the technology beyond the state-of-the-art and must, therefore be capable of accommodating the materials and engineering innovations which will be developed within IComp. The purchase of the machine is being supported by major industrial partners in IComp including Bombardier, EireComposites and Henkel.
