Provision of support in Irish marine mammal ecology
The Department of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government is responsible for the conservation of natural habitats and species and the protection of biological diversity in Ireland. It is also responsible for providing advice to Licensing Authorities in that regard.
Many species of marine mammals are protected under Irish and European legislation and through international agreements. These include the Wildlife Acts, the Habitats Directive, the OSPAR Convention, the Bonn Convention, the Berne Convention, and the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling. Accordingly, there is a significant requirement for expertise in relation to the planning and execution of marine mammal surveys and in the interpretation of survey results into management advice in the context of the aforementioned legal obligations.
The Department of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government now invites tenders for the provision of support in Irish marine mammal ecology.
