Kildare County Council has two groundwater developments at Monasterevin and Rathangan. The developments consist of the following:
Monasterevin Wellfield (Capacity 3,200cum/day).
— 7 no. deep bedrock boreholes and pumpsets,
— over 2 km of 150-200mm diameter raw water rising mains,
— treatment plants comprising of,
— treatment building,
— cascade aerator,
— rapid gravity filters,
— chlorination and fluoridation systems,
— clearwater tank and high lift pumping station,
— washwater holding tank,
— controls and instrumentation.
Rathangan Wellfield (Capacity 5,000cum/day).
— 7 no. deep bedrock boreholes and pumpsets,
— over 4 km of 150-200mm diameter raw water rising mains,
— treatment plants comprising of,
— treatment building,
— cascade aerator,
— rapid gravity filters,
— chlorination and fluoridation systems,
— clearwater tank and high lift pumping station,
— washwater holding tank,
— controls and instrumentation.
The wellfields have been in operation since 2007 and Kildare County Council wish to enter into an operate contract with a suitable service provider. The Operator will be required to operate the wellfields and treatment plants so as to provide drinking water to specified water quality parameters and to maintain the receiving reservoirs at an appropriate storage level.
The Operator will be responsible for all aspects associated with the operation of such a development including but not limited to the provision of suitably qualified, trained and experienced staff, chemicals, power, other consumables, treatment and disposal of any waste arisings or by-products of the treatment process, water quality testing and analysis, regular performance reporting and auditing of the works, maintenance and repalcement (if required) of existing plant, compliance with all Health & Safety regulations and other duties as may be required,
It is intended to enter into a 5 year operate contract with an option to extend the period by 12 monthly intervals up to a maximum of 10 years. There will also be an option for Kildare County Council to terminate the contract after 3 years and any subsequent year during the operate phase.
