Jack Lynch Tunnel Passive Fire Protection

The Works consist of the design and installation of passive fire protection in the Jack Lynch Tunnel, Cork. The tunnel is a reinforced concrete immersed tube type tunnel with two bores for traffic and a central passage for services and emergency pedistrain access. The tunnel is 610 metres in length and is made up of 5 sections, each around 122 metres long, 23.8 metres wide and 8.38 metres high. The Works will involve the night time installation of passive fire protection in both traffic bores. The tunnel will return to full public operations during the day. During the installation of the passive fire protection, existing services including, but not limited to; jet fans, luminaries, lane variable message signs, CCTV cameras, leaky feeder cables, linear heat detector cables, gas monitors, and numerous cables and junction boxes may require to be temporarily removed and then re-mounted. Other elements within the tunnel to be considered during the installation includes but not limited to; emergency panels, emergency doors, immersion joints, dilation joints, vents, plus any other element or fixture that may impact on the passive fire protection installation.
