Extra High Voltage (400 kV) infrastructure development in the South West of Ireland
The objective of this pre-qualification questionnaire (PQQ) process is to produce a short-list of suitably qualified companies who would be invited to tender for the provision of project management, engineering, environmental, planning & consultation services as detailed below.
EirGrid is to undertake major capital investment in the South West of Ireland as part of the Grid25 strategy. This proposed scheme shall involve development of a 400 kV circuit of approximately 26 km length between Moneypoint 400 kV station and the future planned North Kerry station. The main driver for this project is the connection of Gate 3 renewable generation in the south west. A new transmission circuit is required in order to export excess generation from the south west to other areas during periods of high wind.
The preferred solution option is a 400 kV circuit between the existing Moneypoint station and continues as far south as the North Kerry 220 kV station (see maps below). It should be noted that approximately 4km of this circuit will cross the Shannon estuary using sub marine cable. The estuary crossing is part of a separate foreshore licence consenting process which is already underway. Furthermore the works in Moneypoint station associated with this connection are not be included in this PQQ as they are already being accounted for in a separate contract for the redevelopment of Moneypoint station.
