Title attributed to the contract by the contracting authority: Nominated Sub-Contractor - Steelworks. Athlone Institute of Technology proposes to construct a new Engineering Informatics building and to this end is seeking to procure the services of a Steelworks Sub-contractor for design, supply and erection of steel frame. Duties of the nominated Structural Steel Sub-Contractor are as follows: - Preparation of steel fabrication drawings using Strucad or similar approved. Preparation of calculations for joint design. Fabrication and painting of all structural steel. Erection of all structural steel to a programme in agreement with the main contractor. Complying with all relevant aspects of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations, 2006. The building is 10 922 m2 in size and is designed as a teaching/research facility for engineering students and comprises a lecture theatre, classrooms, undergraduate laboratories, research laboratories, drawing studios, workshops, café, offices, and all necessary ancillary facilities. The proposed building is a rectangular shape comprising 10 922 m2 including 3 stories of accommodation 14 m high on the front elevation and 2 stories 7,5 m high at the rear elevation and there is a sloping roof over the building reflecting this. The rectangular shape of the building is made up of 6 individual blocks separated by 5 spaces; the spaces are open to the rear of the building with 'atria' spaces to the front block; 3 of these atria spaces are enclosed and glazed in their front section; 2 of the atria spaces are open (external) and planted.
