Scanning electron microscopes

Athlone Institute of Technology

Title attributed to the contract by the contracting authority: Tender for the purchase of one Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Athlone Institute of technology (AIT) has secured funding from Enterprise Ireland to purchase a Cold Gun Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) with integrated Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometer (EDS). In order to enhance its research equipment base, AIT has identified as its first priority the acquisition of a Scanning Electron Microscope which will be used by over 20 principal investigators and their research students in two research centres and the Schools of Science and Engineering (along with significant Midland industry). As experimental research has increasingly moved from the traditional sole researcher and supervisor model to one of expanded and linked groups, so increasingly research organizations endeavor to maximize resource utilization and secure specialized competence development. A common means to effect this is to establish โ€˜core platform facilitiesโ€™: Specialized laboratories and data centres that offer shared services to multiple users. The tender document, entitled 'Request for Tenders' is available for download from both this site and also directly from the AIT website www.ait.ie under Quick Links and referenced SEM Tender.
