Title attributed to the contract by the contracting authority: Examining Meat for Trichinella (Local). FSAI invites tenders for the collection and subsequent examination of samples for Trichinella in compliance with Regulation (EC) 2075/2005 as amended, from two local Authority supervised slaughterhouses one in County Cavan and one in County Meath for a minimum one year period commencing 1.6.2007, with an option to extend the contract for up to two years if both parties agree. The batch size will be >50 on average and the slaughtering days will be regular. The samples will be taken and presented suitably packaged by the Food Business Operator, ready for collection. Refrigerated transport will not be required. All batches compiled by the Food Business Operator shall be collected and examined. It will be necessary to communicate the result of the examination to the Food Business Operator and to the Local Authority Veterinary Inspector within 12 hours after the final sample has been taken of a batch. This communication will be by fax or by email. In the unikely event of a sample proving positive for Trichinella, the sample shall be sent to the National reference laboratory for Trichinella in Ireland (Central Meat Control Laboratory, Backweston, celbridge) for species verification. Also the batch of pigs from where the positive sample originated will need to be further examined as per Regulation (EC) 2075/2005 as amended, Annex 1, chapter 1,(3),(111). Records will be kept for a period of 3 years. These records will include date of sampling, date of examination of samples, name of slaughterhouse, number of samples in a batch, result of examination, date of forwarding samples in batch to National Reference Laboratory where positive result and methodology used to examine samples.
