The Higher Education Authority (HEA) recently agreed to fund an enhanced wireless telecommunications research capability in WIT, in part in the form of specific test and measurement capability. The test and measurement capability should include the following measurement devices: a signal generator, an oscilloscope, a vector network analyzer and a spectrum analyzer. This equipment is intended for use in wireless applications, initially for wireless sensing capability, but also with a view to other areas. Areas of interest include Ultra-Wide Band (UWB), RFID, wireless communications in the ISM bands, transient or pulsed RF Signals, ZigBee, 3G WLAN, WiMAX, so ideally the equipment would offer some capability in this area.
