Short description of the contract or purchase(s): To obtain the services of 3 freelance English language copy editors to assist the in-house editors with information and communication products destined for publication. Quantity or scope of the contract II.2.1) Total quantity or scope: Content of the tasks: copy-editing and (re)writing. assessing the quality of the text (for completeness, accuracy, relevance and coherence) on the basis of the editorial guidelines as well as the publication plan for the manuscript; b. proofreading text and checking for compliance with the house style and the EU inter-institutional style guide and overall consistency with other texts in terms of format, structure and style; c. editing/re-writing in clear and appropriate English; The originals generally come from a variety of authors, including both Eurofound staff and external researchers, with varying linguistic backgrounds; d. (re)writing/editing short articles for web pages and/or hand outs or slides on the basis of longer reports; e. resolving queries with the authors and Eurofound editorial team; f. identifying and inserting appropriate references/hypertext links; g. providing feedback about templates, guidelines and workflow procedures. Eurofound chief editor contacts the freelance editor with the request to edit/(re)write or proofread a text for a particular date. a. the request would normally imply that work can start within a week's time; b. the freelance editor and chief editor agree on the estimate in accordance with established rates and the deadline; c. the freelance editor receives an order for the required job based on the accepted estimate; d. the freelance editor copy-edits/proofs the text. This might require consultation with the chief editor or librarian and/or the author directly; e. the freelance editor sends back by electronic mail the text in MS Word, with her/his contribution clearly marked via 'track changes' mode or in PDF; f. the editorial team assesses the work and gives feedback within a couple of days, normally via email; g. the text goes for formatting/typesetting or correction; h. the proof goes (back) to the proofreader; i. the proof is approved by the freelance proofreader; j. the chief editor checks the final proof; k. the text is passed for publication; l. the text is uploaded/printed. The approximate value of each of the 3 contracts is up to a maximum of EUR 40 000 over a 48 month period (up to a maximum of EUR 10 000 per annum).
