Project-management services other than for construction work

Department of Foreign Affairs

Title attributed to the contract by the contracting authority: Schools Linking and Immersion Scheme. The Development Education Unit within the Development Cooperation Directorate of the Department of Foreign Affairs wishes to develop a national scheme to support linking and immersion projects between schools in Ireland and in developing countries. It is envisaged that the scheme will comprise two distinct but linked categories: a. school to school linking partnerships between schools in Ireland and schools in developing countries and b. short immersion visits by Irish schools to developing countries. In its initial phase the scheme will target secondary schools. The first year will be considered as a pilot phase and will target a limited number of schools. However, in subsequent years the scheme will be expanded to include increasing numbers of schools. The overall aim of the scheme is to raise awareness and understanding of development issues among young people in Ireland through increased contact and communication with people in developing countries. To support Irish schools in developing successful educational linking partnerships with schools in developing countries. Such partnerships would involve communication and contact between teachers and students, including collaborative educational work, and may also include reciprocal visits. 2 To support schools undertaking short immersion visits to developing countries to view at first hand the realities of development. It is expected that both immersion and linking projects would also raise awareness of the Department's Overseas Development Assistance programme. The Department is now seeking expressions of interest to administer and manage the operation of this scheme. It is envisaged that support to schools undertaking either linking or immersion projects would include: advice, information, training and the provision of small grants to enhance the educational potential and to support certain other associated costs of these initiatives. Special additional support would be available for schools in designated disadvantaged areas in Ireland. Schools in Northern Ireland may participate in the scheme on a cross-border basis with partner schools in the Republic of Ireland.
