The Teaching Council

The Teaching Council was established on a statutory basis in March 2006 to promote teaching as a profession at primary and post-primary levels, to promote the professional development of teachers and to regulate standards in the profession. Its offices are located in Maynooth Business Campus, Co. Kildare where it employs a number of executive and administrative staff. Specifically its functions are as follows: โ€” To promote teaching as a profession, โ€” To promote the continuing professional development of teachers, โ€” To establish and maintain a register of teachers, โ€” To establish, publish, review and maintain Codes of Professional Conduct for Teachers which include teaching knowledge, skill and competence, โ€” To regulate the teaching profession and, โ€” To maintain and improve standards of teaching, knowledge, skill and competence. The Teaching Council wishes to establish a framework agreement to meet its requirements for print management and fulfilment services over the next 4 years.
