Adelaide & Meath Hospital, Dublin Inc. The National Children's Hospital
Title attributed to the contract by the contracting authority: AMNCH Integrated Point of Care Testing (POCT) Glucose Measurement Devices. AMNCH, which opened in 1998, is a 620 bed hospital which was formed through an amalgamation of three hospitals, Meath, Adelaide and National Childrenโs hospitals. The hospital is a teaching hospital associated with the Faculty of Health Sciences, Trinity College, Dublin, Eastern Health Board, Department of Health and Trinity College, Dublin. The Hospital serves as a primary referral centre for the immediate catchment area, i.e. South West Dublin, North Kildare and West Wicklow, with a population of approximately 560 000 and also accepts secondary and tertiary referral form the county and regional hospitals. AMNCH plans to introduce a fully integrated computerised Point of Care Testing (POCT) glucose measurement system. AMNCH laboratories provide pathology services to AMNCH, local G.P.โs and to Peamount which is a 60 bed facility located approximately 12 kilometres from the AMNCH campus. The AMNCH POCT system must incorporate the requirements for the operation and management of POCT in both AMNCH and Peamount. Hand-held glucose analysers are currently in use throughout AMNCH and Peamount for quantification of glucose concentrations in whole blood samples obtained by finger-stick. There are approximately 120 analysers in some fifty plus locations in both emergency and routine monitoring applications. The objective is to identify a system which can improve the management of these analysers and create an associated POCT database for the recording and integration of results produced with existing laboratory IT systems.
