Title attributed to the contract by the contracting authority: AMNCH Integrated Point of Care Testing (POCT) Glucose Measurement Devices. AMNCH, which opened in 1998, is a 620 bed hospital which was formed through an amalgamation of three hospitals, Meath, Adelaide and National Childrenโs hospitals. The hospital is a teaching hospital associated with the Faculty of Health Sciences, Trinity College, Dublin, Eastern Health Board, Department of Health and Trinity College, Dublin. The Hospital serves as a primary referral centre for the immediate catchment area, i.e. South West Dublin, North Kildare and West Wicklow, with a population of approximately 560 000 and also accepts secondary and tertiary referral form the county and regional hospitals. AMNCH and Naas General Hospital (NGH) plan to introduce fully integrated computerised POCT glucose measurement systems. AMNCH laboratories provide pathology services to AMNCH, local G.P.โs and to Peamount which is a 60 bed facility located approximately 12 kilometers from the AMNCH campus. The AMNCH POCT system must incorporate the requirements for the operation and management of POCT in both AMNCH and Peamount. Naas General Hospital serves the catchment area of Kildare and West Wicklow, an area with rapidly growing population. It is located within walking distance of the centre of Naas Town. NGH currently has 243 patient beds which include 18 day service beds. Naas General Hospital laboratories provide pathology services to NGH and GPs in the Kildare/West Wicklow area as well as Clane General Hospital. The Naas POCT system must incorporate the requirements for the operation and management of POCT in NGH. Hand-held glucose analysers are currently in use throughout AMNCH, Peamount and NGH for quantification of glucose concentrations in whole blood samples obtained by finger-stick. There are approximately 150 analysers in some 65 plus locations in both emergency and routine monitoring applications. The objective is to identify a system which can improve the management of these analysers and create an associated POCT database for the recording and integration of results produced with the existing laboratory IT systems in both AMNCH and NGH respectively.
