Maintenance dredging 2011 - 2017. Group 45.2 , Class 45.24. The contract involves the maintenance of the fairway and berths in Cork Harbour to advertised depths. Traditionally this has been achieved by dredging campaigns, currently at 3 yearly intervals, using a trailer suction dredger supported by bed levelling equipment. The dredging and dumping of the largely silt material is undertaken under the terms of a dredging and dumping permit which expires in December 2012. An application for a new permit beyond 2012 will be made in due course. While the tender documents will be structured using the traditional fairway management approach the Port will also be prepared to consider alternative approaches such as water injection dredging and will seek to obtain regulatory approval for such a procedure if deemed desirable subject to commercial, regulatory, and environmental considerations.
