Title attributed to the contract by the contracting authority: Assessment of Geological Storage of CO2 in Hypothetical Deep Saline Aquifers. The objective of this invitation to tender is to source a consultancy service which will provide project management and technical support and assistance to the Geological Survey of Ireland (GSI). The contract is awarded in association with the Petroleum Affairs Division (PAD) of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This is a preliminary study which will assess the suitability or otherwise of such reservoirs for long-term carbon storage. This is the first stage in a series of studies necessary to establish the potential for carbon storage for Ireland. This study will not involve physical injection of CO2 into any geological media. The work will be carried out as a project managed by the GSI, in partnership with PAD and SEI, with the financial support of the EPA Climate Change Research Programme.
