Munster Blackwater (Fermoy South East & South West) Drainage Scheme - Civil Engineering Contract. This contract is designed to provide for the constructon of a flood alleviation scheme to protect existing properties and infrastructure from fluvial flooding with a return period of 1 in a 100 year.The exact scope of works will be identified in the Contract Documents, but the following is a summary of the works: — Construction of approximately 400m of earth embankments up to 5m in height above existing ground levels, — Construction of approximately 450m of stone clad concrete permenant floodwalls up to 4m in height, — Construction of approximately 400m of stone clad permanent concrete riverside floodwalls in combination with demountable structures. The demountable structures are intended to be provided for by way of a novated specialist, — Construction of approximately 50m of permanent concrete ground beams in combination with full height demountable structures. The demountable structures are intended to be provided for by way of a novated specialist, — Construction of underground sheet piles up to 6m deep, concrete bearing piles up to 10m long and diagonal ground anchors up to 10m long, — Installation of surface water inteceptor sewers and pumping stations behind the new flood defences, allowing the pumping of water from the town back into the river during high river flow through river outfall pipes, — Construction of new sewer system pumping stations and automatic mill race penstocks. The pumping plant & penstocks and control systems are intended to be provided for by way of a specialist.The appointed Contractor will also be appointed as Project Supervisor Contruction Stage under the Safety Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations of 2006 and as such will be responsible for all the associated duties with regard to Health and Safety during the construction of the scheme works.The scale and complexity of the works will be compounded by the need to protect the environment and maintain access for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicular traffic, including parking. There are a number of recommendations in the EIS regarding human environment, landscape, ecology, fisheries and water quality, noise, traffic, air quality and climate. All shortlisted Candidates will be given a detailed list of the recommendations and these shall be taken into account during construction.Much of the proposed works are located in a zone of Archaeological potential in the historic settlement of Fermoy. Pre-development archaeological testing is ongoing. Requirements for archaeological monitoring will be identified in the tender documents. It is likely that some of the works will be required to be carried out under archaelogical supervision.
