Title attributed to the contract by the contracting authority: Munster Blackwater (Mallow South and West) Drainage Schemes - Civil Engineering Contract. The works will be carried out in a number of different areas on the southern side of the River Blackwater and 3 No. tributary streams. The Blackwater defence works involve 350 m of flood defence walls East and West of Mallow Bridge in addition to 800 m of embankment West of Mallow Bridge. The tributary defence works involve the construction of 3 no. flood control chambers and associated penstock structures with 520 m of underground culverts to run from these chambers to the River Blackwater. Modification to existing channels to tie in the proposed culverts will be required as well as the construction of approximately 600 m of new stream channel. The works comprise all utility modifications and diversions, reinstatement of all the work areas, local regrading of roads, and all temporary works including traffic management associated with the above. The works will also include the construction of 2 no. foul pumping stations with 600 m of sewer modifications and relaying. It is anticipated that the Main Contractor will also be appointed as PSCS. Preliminary estimated Value of Contract is in the region of 9 000 000 EUR to 13 000 000 EUR. However this may change subject to finalisation of scope during detailed design and based on market rates at the time of tender.
