Marine Institute

Title attributed to the contract by the contracting authority: Supply of Server Room infrastructural equipment and associated services. The Marine Institute is the national agency responsible for Marine Research, Technology Development and Innovation (RTDI). It seeks to assess and realise the economic potential of Ireland's 220 million acre marine resource; promote the sustainable development of the marine industry through strategic funding programmes and essential scientific services; and safeguard Ireland's marine environment through research and environmental monitoring. The Marine Institute is the lead implementing agency for Sea Change - A Marine Knowledge, Research and Innovation Strategy for Ireland 2007-2013, which presents a national agenda, comprising science, research, innovation and management, aimed at developing and transforming the Irish maritime economy (www.marine.ie/home/SeaChange). The Infrastructure Supporting Programme of Sea Change identifies the need for specific priority marine infrastructures to enable the delivery of the objectives of the research programmes identified in the Strategy. The Marine Institute has secured funding under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for the acquisition of some of the priority infrastructure elements of Sea Change. The ERDF, which is aimed at promoting economic and social cohesion within the European Union through the reduction of imbalances between regions, is one of four individual funds collectively known as the E.U. Structural Funds. It is envisaged that a number of ICT hardware intensive projects will be undertaken as part of the Sea Change programme, and as a result, it is anticipated that an additional environmentally controlled server room will be required at the Marine Institute's Head Office in order to house such equipment.
