Donegal County Council has been awarded funding in partnership with the NTA as part of the ‘Safe Routes to School (SRTS)’ programme to develop an integrated transport network on L-5354 Chapel Road and R236 Derry Road to St. Baithin’s National School, St Johnston. The programme proposes to provide a secure, connected active travel network that works for all members of the community that can be used safely and enjoyable by all. Two new pedestrian crossings shall also be provided (Chapel Road and Derry Rd) to improve carriageway pedestrian crossing points and promote model shift from a car dependent society and encourage walking to school. The new improved infrastructure proposal will benefit the local community particularly those living in Coís Aibhaínn, Árd Na Meala and Church View housing estates.
