Diagnostic ultrasound devices
Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland
Title attributed to the contract by the contracting authority: Framework Agreement for Ultrasound Machines for use in the field of Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine. The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) is seeking to purchase between 7 and 8 high-end obstetric ultrasound machines for conducting large-scale national clinical research trials on the island of Ireland. This ultrasound equipment will form the infrastructure backbone of a collaborative consortium of academic and clinical centres throughout Ireland with the goal being to advance clinical research in the field of obstetrics and fetal medicine. Highest possible machine specifications will be required including the ability to perform multi-planar and real-time 3 dimensional ultrasonography, advanced arterial, venous and tissue Doppler ultrasonography, and the ability to digitally handle and manipulate images and ultrasound data. This proposal will also underpin the development of a strategic corporate / research partnership between RCSI and the successful ultrasound machine manufacturer, with a view towards long term co-development and validation of new ultrasound techniques and modalities. Due to the multi-site nature of this all-Ireland consortium, the ability to deliver creative solutions for machine service and maintenance in a timely and efficient manner will be crucial. The intent of this collaborative consortium is to become the preferred setting for obstetric and fetal medicine research over the next decade, with plans to expand the number of participating sites, the number or ultrasound machines, and the specifications of such machines as required by evolving clinical and scientific knowledge.
