Construction of a new Central Veterinary Research Farm at Longtown Farm, Clane, Co. Kildare. The development will consist of the construction of a new Central Veterinary Research Farm for the Department of Agriculture and Food, and will comprise two (2 no.) Farmyard complexes along with a separate single storey farm administration building as described below, covering a total floor area of approximately 12,093 square metres. Farmyard complex 1, enclosed by a 2.4 metre high metal palisade fence, comprises the Foundation Yard and contains single storey structures as follows; 1 no., cattle shed (707 sq.m.), 1 no. suckler cow shed (653 sq.m.), 1 no., sheep shed (432 sq.m.), 2 no., loose house bull pens (115 sq.m.), 1 no., covered cattle crush (108 sq.m.), 2 no., covered manure pits (240 sq.m.), 3 no., covered silage pits (744 sq.m.), 1 no., hay and straw store (315 sq.m.), 1 no., machinery shed (390 sq.m.), 1 no., building containing workshop, store and toilet (240 sq.m.), 1 no., building containing oil store, herbicide store and electrical switch room (60 sq.m.), as well as 1 no., overground diesel tank, 1 no., hot wash area for vehicles within the yard and 1 no., truck wash for vehicles outside the yard. The total floorspace of Farmyard Complex 1 is 4,004 sq.m. Farmyard complex 2 comprises the High Security Yard, Low Security Yard, and Enclosed Research Area. The High Security Yard, enclosed by an inner 2.4 metre high metal palisade fence with control gate and an outer 2.4m high mesh panel security fence with control gate, contains single storey structures as follows; 1 no., cattle shed (579 sq.m.), 1 no., sheep shed (587 sq.m.), 1 no., experimental challenge building (492 sq.m.) , 1 no., straw shed and meal store (362 sq.m.), 2 no., covered manure pits (460 sqm.), 2 no., covered silage pits (460 sq.m.), 1 no., single storey building containing 6 no., loose boxes (111 sq.m.), and 1 no., truck wash for vehicles outside the yard. The Low Security Yard, enclosed by a 2.4 metre high palisade fence with control gate, contains single storey structures as follows; 1 no., hay shed (242 sq.m.), 2 no., covered manure pits (370 sq.m.), 1 no.,cow examination building (56 sq.m.), 1 no., sheep dip, 4 no., single storey buildings each containing 10 no., loose boxes and 1 no., single storey building containing 5 no., loose boxes (828 sq.m.), and a single storey staff building containing shower/change/laundry/office with sample store (166 sq.m.). The Enclosed Research Area is connected to the Low Security Yard and bounded by a 3 metre high concrete block wall and contains the following; 2 no., portacabins (36 sq.m.) and 12 no., animal pens (3,150 sq.m including 2 no., cattle sheds (120sq.m)) enclosed by 2 metre high wire fencing. The total floorspace of Farmyard Complex 2 is 7,899 sq.m. The Administration Building complex comprises 1 no., single storey administration block (190 sq.m) and associated car parking. Proposed site development works include upgrading and widening of a section of the existing internal road, providing additional new yard access roads within the Farm, car parking for 17 no., cars including 4 no., disabled spaces, general landscaping works, provision of on-site storage and treatment of animal effluent, foul drainage package systems (2 no.,) providing primary and secondary treatment to human waste effluent, a new surface water drainage system connected to the existing pond on site, provision of new entrance and removal of existing entrance off public road incorporating new gates with stone wing walls and associated signage.
