It aims at delivering new insights into the impact of codes of conduct and international framework agreements on the micro-level of social dialogue as well as into modern company cultures. The desired outcomes with regard to the communication objectives of the project are the following: a) to map and assess trends of new modes of regulation at company level; b) to promote awareness and understanding of the new modes of regulation at the company level; c) to contribute to the ongoing debate on Europeanisation of industrial relations in the context of the modernisation of employment relations and the role of the social partners in an enlarged EU; d) to examine and raise awareness of the scope for synergies between the different levels of industrial relations as well as between different tools of new modes of regulation. This project is also in line with the recent Communication from the Commission, 'Partnership for change in a enlarged Europe - Enhancing the contribution of European social dialogue' (COM(2004)557 final, Brussels, 12.8.2004, p. (...) the purpose of this Communication is to promote awareness and understanding of the results of the European social dialogue, to improve their impact, and to promote further developments based on effective interaction between different levels of industrial relations. The content of the task consists of providing an analytical report reviewing the current trends in relation to the codes of conduct and international framework agreements: the report will also reflect upon the impact of these forms of industrial relations at the micro-level on the 2 sides of industry. In order to launch the project an expert workshop will be organised to stimulate the debate, to give additional impetus to the research and to operate as a relay network for the researchers. To complement the above the researchers will be asked to carry out 10 case studies into companies having introduced codes of conduct on a unilateral basis or having negotiated international framework agreements with trade unions' representatives.
