Services of chairperson and secretariat for a national forum for pharmacy education & accreditation. The Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) is the statutory body established under the Pharmacy Act, 2007 charged with the regulation of the pharmacy sector in Ireland. The PSI acts in the interests of patient safety and public protection to regulate the pharmacy profession. In 2008 the PSI commissioned the pharmacy education and accreditation reviews (PEARs) project with the following aims: โ A root and branch review of the fiveโyear programme of education and training required to become a pharmacist within Ireland, โ A review of accreditation models and accreditation criteria. The report made a series of recommendations around the move to an integrated undergraduate degree, the development of new educational standards and the development of a new accreditation methodology. These included an appropriate approach to governance of the system, with a recommendation stating: "To ensure success, the development and delivery of the new integrated programme of pharmacy education, training and assessment should be assisted by a national forum that meets regularly. This forum should be led by the pharmacy regulator (the PSI) and comprise all relevant stakeholders including representatives from each school of pharmacy and from all sectors of the professional where work-based training will take place". The Council of the PSI now wishes to progress with the recommendations within the PEARs report by engaging the services of a chairperson to head up the national forum, and to drive this programme forward as a key force for change across the profession including appropriate secretariat support to drive the national forum. The chairperson of the national forum will be responsible for overseeing the process of establishing a 5-year integrated degree programme for launch in the academic year 2012/2013. The PSI invites tenderers to submit a tender for the provision of these services as further set out in the invitation to tender available on www.etenders.gov.ie.
