Title attributed to the contract by the contracting authority: NUIG/BUILD/019/09: Human Biology Building NUIG - Lots 1 to 7. The Contract is for the construction and commissioning of a new research and teaching building, to be called the Human Biology Building, which will accommodate the departments of Pharmacoloy and Therapeutics, Anatomy, and Physiology. The building will have a gross floor area of approximately 8 000 sq. m, including four storeys over a single level basement and with a roof top plant room. The building will have a reinforced concrete structure, with an envelope in aluminium, limestone and glass and significant mechanical and electrical services installations. The site is located in an active and busy University campus, in a sensitive central location on the campus, adjacent to occupied buildings and pedestrian/traffic routes. The site is close to Protected Structures including buildings and the adjacent canal. Other construction contracts will be in progress concurrently with the Contract in nearby parts of the campus. The building will include undergraduate teaching laboratories, research laboratories, offices, open plan write-up spaces, tiered lecture theatres and other ancillary accommodation. The scope will include temporary sound attenuation barriers, demolitions and site clearance, excavation of soil overburden and excavation of approximately 3,500 cubic metres of granite and dolerite. Rock breaking using a chemical or gas method is envisaged. Rock breaking using explosives will not be permitted. Applications are invited from suitably qualified Main and Sub-Contractors who wish to be considered for inclusion on the tender lists from which tenders will be invited for the following lots. Applicants should be aware that this project and lot specific elements may be executed under the new Public Works Contract (Department of Finance 2007). Contractors should refer to the attached Questionnaires for a description of the Lots.
