There is increasing complexity in the special education landscape more broadly as well as in the accommodation of candidates with special educational needs in the certificate examinations. Legal and regulatory changes which need to be considered include Irish sign language legislation, the review by the DoE of the Education of Persons with Special Educational Needs Act, changes to the Equal Status Act and the impact of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
