The purpose of this project is to understand the fishing gear market in Ireland in order to inform data reporting to the European Commission and to identify the most suitable EPR model for Ireland which meets the following objectives: โข to incentivise producers to design more resource-efficient products with lower environmental impacts (e.g. in terms of the type or amount of material used). โข to ensure cost-effective end-of-life collection and environmentally sound treatment of collected waste products, to establish an effective waste fishing gear reporting system and processes, and to create higher rates of reuse and recycling. The project will be split into four parts, as outlined in the tender document.
