The new equipment will be capable of higher resolution and also dealing with larger overall sample sizes. It would represent a solution that is not currently available within Ireland and which enables progress within many fields and applications: aerospace components, metal additive manufacturing, EV batteries. A primary mini-focus, cone beam, at least 450kV x-ray source to facilitate large, heavy samples and a secondary, micro-focus source to generate fine focal spots for higher resolution on delicate components. A state of the art, high sensitivity, high resolution imaging arrays suited to fine detail and high absorbing samples. A high end reconstruction and post-processing computing solution for data analysis and handling. A large working envelope capable of handling samples up to 1000mm diameter.
