The N73 Annakisha Realignment Scheme received Part VIII Planning Permission on the 27.4.2015 and the CPO was approved by An Bord Pleanรกla (ref. No ABP-300570-18) in 25.4.2018. The project involves the realignment of approximately 3,5 km of existing N73 road (single carriageway) and ancillary works. Compulsory purchase orders have been made in respect of 33 properties with an aggregate area of c.11,332 hectares, c.6,497 hectares of which is described as land and c.4,835 hectares of which is described as road.

The project comprises an update to an original design concept for a smaller 1,2 km scheme (the N73 Annakisha South Realigment). Archaeological investigations were undertaken in 2012 (as part of a separate dual road scheme contract) on this former scheme footprintโ€”details are available in the information pack provided. The current design iteration (now referred to as the N73 Annakisha Realignment Scheme) measures c. 3,5 km long. The majority of the extended scheme footprint was archaeologically tested in late 2014โ€”details are in the information pack provided.
