Description of the procurement
Cork City Council plans to carry out road network and public realm improvement works on a number of roads and streets linking the South Docklands and Cork City Centre. The projects primary objectives are as follows:
โ improve access between South Docklands and the City Centre in terms of convenience, safety and capacity across all modes but with particular emphasis on sustainable modes of transportation (walking, cycling and public transport),
โ provide a high quality public realm in keeping with the ambitious redevelopment plans for the area which is respectful of the existing community within Docklands. The public realm design will seek to achieve the correct balance between hard and soft landscaping, uniqueness and sustainability while also embracing the riverside amenity potential of the area.
To achieve these aims it will be necessary to make the following modifications:
โ introduction of a City Centre bound contra-flow bus lane on Victoria Road (North) and Albert Quay,
โ introduction of a 2-way Cycle Track on Albert Quay and on Victoria Road (North),
โ replacement of Victoria Road/Centre Park Road Roundabout with a traffic signal controlled junction,
โ improvement and reconfiguration of Monahan Road/Victoria Road Junction,
โ re-alignment of the Old Blackrock Road/Victoria Road Junction,
โ public realm improvements to Albert Quay East, Victoria Road, Albert Road, Marina Terrace, etc.,
โ Kennedy Quay access from Albert Quay will be restricted. The primary access to Kennedy Quay will be from Marina Walk,
โ introduction of a new residential access link between Electric Terrace and Rosefield Terrace,
โ footpaths will be widened and repaved for the safety and convenience of pedestrians,
โ crossing facilities will be provided at all junctions for the safety of vulnerable road users,
โ all bus stops will be upgraded and real time passenger information displays installed,
โ public lighting will be renewed,
โ utility services will be renewed and spare capacity provided.
